Description and concept
One of the elements of Tokyo that impressed me the most in my first few months as a research student was the enormous number of photo booths scattered throughout the city. At the same time, my stay at the University was a multicultural experience in which people from all over the world came together. It is in the confluence of these two sources of inspiration that "Generic Portraits" arises. To bring it about, a software capable of creating a composite image from facial expressions of the represented subject was implemented. Each subject had between 12 and 20 photos taken, capturing both their basic expressions and those that best characterized them. These images were then averaged using the Wavelet MRF method, originally described by (Tiddeman, Stirrat, & Perrett, 2005). The resulting photographs appropriate the design of those produced by photo booths.
