Synesthesia (sounds of Havana)

2014-2015. Installation, light box, sound.

Description and concept

I am an immigrant in Havana. Unlike the local dweller who feels a gray apathy for the city I, on the other hand, discover all kinds of colorful opportunities at every step. The project consists of projecting into space, in the form of light and color, a sound recording of the places in Havana, which I have most meaningfully related with, e.g. the houses where I lived, the Faculty at the university and my first jobs. A small LCD screen includes the corresponding caption with the date, time and place where the sound capture was made. Taking my direct experience as a departure point, with this project I am interested in recovering the empathic relationship we establish with the city, lost in the accelerated daily automation of urban dynamics.
